It’s really simple – we’re born, we breed, we die. That’s the life cycle in a nut shell.
Unfortunately some species have fallen by the wayside due to varying reasons, the breeding didn’t go so well for those guys.
Without any doubt two of the above are certain.
1. If you’re reading this then you have definitely been born.
2. With unequivocal certainty at some point in your future you are going to die – Non negotiable.
For much of our lives we live as if it’s a perpetual commodity.
We trade our one off existence for a lifetime of debt to maintain our social standing.
We build our world around materialistic ideals in the belief that we will be happy, yet it seems most of us don’t appear to find it.
Some of the wealthiest people I know are the most bitter.
At levels never seen before, we’re depressed, we suffer anxiety, we sleep poorly and we get upset at the most inconsequential matters. We grab at the latest trend that will improve our health, our physique or our looks.
On numerous occasions over my life time I’ve asked myself – What’s the point? What is the whole life thing about?
Knowing that we are going to die, it could be said that’s it’s a pointless exercise. That there is no point!
Yes, that does sound all a bit depressing, but don’t slash your wrists just yet!
My question should really be – What if we really lived?
What if we put more focus on the things that really matter.
Things like:
1. Showing tolerance and compassion.
2. Helping others that could do with a hand.
3. Accepting that failure is ok and actually allows growth (nobody found success without experiencing failure).
4. Accepting that others don’t always see things as you do (I’m probably wrong more times than I’m right). Be open to others ideas.
5. Enjoying and appreciating the skills of others rather than despising their brilliance.
6. Being humble.
7. Encouraging others in reaching their goals.
8. Being comfortable in the skin you were born in.
9. Travel as often as possible and enjoy other cultures.
Imagine if, by your own existence you made a positive difference to someone or many. That this “life thing” was actually all worthwhile.
I get the feeling, this may just be where “happiness” is hiding.
I came across a quote that stopped me in my tracks. Seriously it sent a shiver down my spine. I’d like to share it with you.
I hope you take a minute to think about it’s message.
Death tugs at my ear – He says:
” I AM COMING!
SO LIVE NOW!”
Thanks for reading and I’d love to hear your thoughts.
With gratitude – RD
