The Benefits of Routine
Christmas was great, we had friends and family visiting which was fantastic. Catching up, getting out and about and just enjoying and appreciating our time together was wonderful.
We were all out of routine and that added to the enjoyment as it was good to get away from the usual day to day stuff. Getting out of routine every so often is a good thing..
But life returns to normal and it’s time to get back to it. Back to your usual routine.
I imagine for some folks that sounds terribly boring and yes, routine certainly can be a little repetitive. Why be stuck in a mundane world feeling like you’re in a virtual militarised existence? Why not just take it as it comes? Why bother with routine?
Routine includes the mundane tasks that need doing. The things that keep your world in order and your life functioning with intent. Your routine is the footing that the structure is built on.
Your positive morning routine will dictate how your day starts – on the front foot. Get out of bed early, do your morning walk, get your body and mind moving. Give yourself time to be prepared for your day.
Your exercise routine doesn’t have to be a killer routine. Half an hour each day makes a huge difference to your physical and mental well being.

In our home, our evening routine is about finishing what needs to be done to end the day and set up tomorrow. We have our weekly meals set out so we know what we’re cooking each night, we make our lunches for the next day, we stay on top of any menial tasks that need doing.
Our evening routine includes “Happy Hour”. A red wine or two while we catch up on each other’s day and what’s on over the upcoming days.
The thing is, if you aren’t in a routine that keeps you on top of life’s maintenance requirements, then chances are your life’s a little unorganised and disjointed. Our progress in getting to where we want to be, can be unnecessarily difficult when the routine tasks aren’t maintained.
