ADJUSTING

So here we are. Day two, it’s mid morning and we’re sitting on the deck of a small building that resembles a Yurt. Our Yurt goes by the name of ”Air”.

“Air” is located in a rainforest in Northern NSW and being winter with little sun being able to penetrate the bush canopy, it’s pretty damned cold here on the deck, we’re rugged up, I have my beanie on and the air is cold and fresh.

The Yurt ”Air”

“Air” is a very pleasant Yurt with an open fire, rustic appeal, a very comfortable and cosy bed and it’s quite remote. Just myself, Debra and the sounds of the native birds sounding off their calls. The familiar sound of a Lire bird followed by the chuckle of a Kookaburra breaks the tranquility in a wonderful way.

We’ve come here to ”get away” and take time to reflect on where we’re at. I’ve brought my acoustic guitar (with a set of new strings) and played it more yesterday than I have in the past two years and don’t my fingers know it! Debra is reading a book and has read more pages in our time here than she has in years.

Here’s the thing.

Our trip was to be a ”retreat” – you know, get away from it all for a few days. Get back to nature – Reset ! Sounds easy! Well that’s not quite the case. We’ve realised we have become so programmed to our structured lives, that stepping off the grid even for a couple of days has become a challenge.

Things aren’t as expected – actually what were we expecting?

The internet is a bit hit and miss, having to ”Hot Spot” off my phone – How reliant have we become on the internet?

Work and it’s damn constant issues and calamities don’t stop just because I’d like to – or do I? OMG that’s an issue in itself I have to address!

It’s Saturday – We can’t do the weekly shop! The lawns need a mow, the pool needs a vacuum!

What about Debra’s exercise classes she’s going to miss, how will she ever make these up! She’ll have to walk around the world! We’ll miss social golf this arvo!

We’re doomed if we stay here in our Yurt for another day – it can’t go on!!!

We’re wasting time here – or are we?

When I was a child my Mum used to tell me I had to learn to be resourceful. Find something to do! Make the most of your time.

This morning we both couldn’t sit still, up & down, round & round, the boredom! Truth be known it probably is a bit too much of a total withdraw for both of us.

But thinking about it

We certainly have had some great discussions on the next direction we want to move towards, I have played my beautiful guitar more than I have done in years, we’ve read, we’ve reflected, I even wrote this blog and the location is very special and peaceful.

On our way back to civilisation as we know it, we stopped for lunch. Ironically, on the blackboard in the Cafe it said:

I think when we look back on our stay at the Yurt called ”Air” we will have good memories. Now we know what direction we’re heading, maybe we actually did achieve a lot more in that simple uncomplicated couple of days than we realised.

As always – Thanks for reading. RD
