Owner : Ben

A little about Ben – at 38 years of age he is married with two young children and is a Commercial Business Manager based in Adelaide, South Australia.

Likes – Motorsport, Aussie Rules football, Tennis and socialising.

Dislikes – Coffee (unusual in todays café set), dirty cars and “big noters” .

OK enough of that – To the car !!!

A 2014 BMW 328i M- sport 4 door. Powered by a 2 litre turbo charged 4 cylinder petrol engine developing 190 Kilowatts. The power plant is attached to an 8 speed automatic gearbox with the option of flappy paddle control. The car runs on low profile19 inch rims, holding the thing on the tarmac are 225/40/R19 tyres on the front and 255/40/R19 on the rear – all Bridgestone Potenza’s. The car has the “M” suspension pack hence the ride is stiff and somewhat unforgiving which is of no real surprise in this car. Its also quite efficient with Ben reporting a fuel burn of around 6.2 litres per 100 kilometres.

Bens owned the car for 9 months having previously owned an Audi A5 Sports Back (also a 2 litre turbo) . The performance of the Beemer is very good and responds impressively – sorry haven’t got any stats on this, but it kicked arse.

Well appointed with full leather interior, the BMW professional navigation system with voice command subtlety protrudes above the middle of the dash giving a long screen shot of where you are headed.

The car has the usual IPOD connectivity with a “one at a time” CD player. This may sound somewhat below the expected six stacker ! However it can be forgiven as a really cool thing is the car has its own internal hard drive of some 30GB’s that enables you to store any CD you may play, so you always have it available, way after the six stacker has completed its play list. And of course the car has the electronic and totally adjustable sunroof for all seasons. Interestingly, Ben points out that this is the middle of the range interior in the BMW three series.

So why this car ? Its the classic looks and BMW’s reputation for fine sports sedans. I’ve always liked European performance cars says Ben.

Any dislikes? In the  nine months that I have had the car I don’t have any real major gripes. Although the start / stop technology that kills the engine at sets of traffic lights for example drives me nuts, but it can be switched off. Also the car doesn’t have a spare wheel, not even the “space saver” wheel so common in todays cars ! It literally doesn’t come with a spare and if you do get a flat you have to run on a flat.

When compared to his past Audi, Ben feels the BMW has superior handling and is better equipped. He would also recommend signing up for a service package as most European cars cost a heap to service.

Ben bought the car second hand as a used BMW internal company car, so in effect as far as BMW is concerned, he is the first actual registered owner of the car. The purchase price was $59,000 with only 5000 kilometres on the clock – full new car warranty applies!

So why not a brand new car for that money ? Ben likes the upmarket feel of the car and its a little different, along with being considerably under the new car price for this model made it a great buy for what you get.

Bens tip !! Keep an eye out for internal company cars from certain manufacturers like BMW and Audi – you get very low kilometres with full new car warranty and you are the first owner outside of the manufacturer. Ben adds that he also acquired his Audi A5 the same way.photo

Next car ? Would be another BMW or Audi

Ben’s wish I could car ? A BMW M6 Grand Sport.

Thanks Ben and enjoy !!!
