As most Australians would know, at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics 1,000m short track ice skating event, Steve Bradbury won Australia’s first Winter Olympic Gold Medal through a series of improbable events. Finding himself in the final which resulted in three of the four competitors crashing out leaving Bradbury to cross the finish line as the last man standing. From that day on, the Aussie term “Doing A Bradbury” became part of the Australian vocabulary.

And so it was at the recent Dutch Motorcycle Grand Prix that 21 year old Jack Miller went on to become the 12th Australian to win a Moto GP race.

With torrential rain initially stopping the race, a restart took place with drying track conditions. This left many of the major teams unsure of what tyres to run and the riders unsure how hard they could push under the somewhat confusing and trying conditions.

 

 

Jack restarted eighth on the grid. The world’s top riders continued to crash out of the race and while leading, the Italian Valentino Rossi crashed out handing the lead to the former two time world champion from Spain, Marc Marques. Jack Miller was now in second place.

Jack kept a cool head, staying behind Marques until the last chicane when he made a decisive move that put him in the lead. He progressively pulled away and went on to win his and the VDS Racing teams maiden GP win.

 

 

 

Jack Miller and his team were never rated by the experts or expected to be a serious prospect of winning a motor cycle Grand Prix.
