Playing the Long Game

It’s been quite a while since I’ve sat down and wrote a post. So I hope you can spare five minutes out of your busy life to have a catch up read.

Over the past year or so, both myself and my wife had started to seriously consider retirement. I felt I’d reached a point in my career where further time at work was wasting precious time that I could spend on my other interests and I do have so many other interests outside of work. Whether it be our properties, my guitars, our extraordinary car, cooking, my swimming, our golf, reading, writing or just creating. I’m the classic example of a “Jack of All Trades – Master of None”. Hence I’m sure it makes me a bit of a complicated, if not at times – frustrated, somewhat impatient and possibly interesting individual. For those that know me too well, I’d hazard a guess and say that I’m probably a few other things – hopefully on the positive side of the ledger!

Strange things happen – I’d started to think that at 62 years old I’d better start thinking about retiring from work as time was apparently running out. A lot of our acquaintances had retired and were spending most of their days playing golf. Bloody hell what are we missing out on, we better start spending a fortune on the journey to Golf Mecca !!! But that’s another story for another day.

I came to a realisation that I was far from done. With the support (as always) of my wonderful wife who had retired early, I’ve worked just as hard in the last months as I ever have and without going into it, what we have achieved is extraordinary.

My immediate goals are different today than 10, 20 or 30 years ago, though the long term goals haven’t changed, it’s just now I’m well within striking distance.

Don’t get sucked into the short game by people who are selling nothing but BS. Sorry to say but you have to play the long game. There is no such thing as a genuine “Get Rich Quick” scheme. Believe me as extraordinary or unbelievable as its seems, all of a sudden you’re 62 years old and your chooks have come home to roost.

As always – Thanks for reading RD
