Just finished watching a Netflix limited series called “The Man in Full” which prompted me to write this post.
The guy (Jeff Daniels) is a property mogul who turns 60 years old during one episode and he’s got some big headaches to deal with! As I’m about to turn 62 in two day’s time, there was some thought provoking elements in the show that I found myself reflecting on.
- There’s nothing wrong with being 60 years old. But you have to be strong – mentally and physically. You will still have to deal with things that life throws at us. Plus there’s no point missing what could be the best years of your life because you’ve become a “powder puff”. For me I’ve got lots to get done and it’s not all about work. Keep exercising, keep reading, keep being creative.
- Live your life on your terms. I know that can be easily said than done when you need that job to pay the bills. Though if you have the skills and a positive attitude it’s amazing what opportunities can and will come your way. Sometimes you just need to bite the bullet.
- Live life with vigour. Even at 60 you need to keep pushing forward in what ever you want to do. Vigour doesn’t mean running yourself into the ground but rather keep moving, keep the interest, do things – both in what needs to be done and things that give you satisfaction and a feeling of achievement and success. Don’t get lazy and think it’s time to have a rest for the next 20 years. Keep growing, time to wilt will come. Push on !
- QTR. I heard this acronym the other day from a guy in passing. He’s also in his sixties. When I asked what the hell is QTR. He said it’s the mantra he adopted once he reached sixty. He reminds himself each day so as to get the most out of the “Quality Time Remaining” (QTR). I thought that was a pretty neat mantra.
- Determination *. We have to stay determined in continuing to achieve our goals, neither our age or the scepticism of others should deter us. The alternative is a monotonous, dreary unprofitable place for any person.
As always thanks for taking the time to read this post and I hope you get something out of it – RD.
* Foot note – a reflection on Michael Jordans return to the NBL (Napoleon Hill).

Hi Reece. Great to read your post! I will be turning 70 on June 20, and certainly appreciate your thoughts on QTR. Headed to Tahiti and hopefully some new experiences on June 23.
